In 1994, recognizing an existing need for residential treatment centers in Colorado, two families, the Littlefields and the Wests, founded Childrens ARK, Inc. in Green Mountain Falls near Colorado Springs, Co.

In June of 1995 they purchased Teen Acres, a residential child care facility, located outside of Sterling, Colorado which had been founded by Dorothy and Everette Duncan in 1967. Later Childrens ARK began operating a ranch in New Raymer for boys. This ranch is located approximately 30 miles from Sterling.

The Wests and Littlefields felt these four facilities could be better managed if divided, allowing one couple to oversee the operations in each of the two locations. The Littlefields retained the facilities in the Sterling area. The Sterling and New Raymer facilities make up what is now called "Kidz Ark".

Kidz Ark serves 60 residents and day treatment clients on a daily basis.  These precious individuals are ages 10-18.  Many of our population are Developmentally or emotionally delayed and they can stay until they are 21 if necessary.  The majority of all our kids have been violently abused or grossly neglected.
